Chawan Mushi (Steamed Egg Custard)

Oh, how happy I've been for the past two years. The result of such happiness can be observed by the amount of weight I've put on since starting college. So, naturally I've become extremely conscious of my figure and like many girls of today; I've gone and put myself on a diet. Hence, I suppose it would be safe to say that I will be posting a lot of low-calorie recipes.

My lunch menu for today consists of a small cup of chawan mushi. Chawan mushi is a type of Japanese steamed egg custard with fillings such as mushroom, chicken or seafood. I made mine with sliced small mushrooms and prawns. The recipe is simple enough but there is a technique involved to achieve a smooth silken texture. Unfortunately, I did not know about that until after I've made it. So, the texture of my chawan mushi wasn't perfect but still tasted delicious.

Recipe adapted from Chawan Mushi. I didn't have any sake so I used regular wine instead.
